GEORGE POCOCK: A LEGACY OF QUALITY

George Pocock, a skilled craftsman known for his boat building, created more than just racing shells in the repurposed seaplane hanger on the University of Washington campus. A vital role in the success of the boys of '36, Pocock was also a master of building relationships, helping mould young Joe Rantz and the other boys to become world champions in the sport of rowing. At the heart of the success Pocock helped to create was quality, a trait that stands the test of time, proven by the many Pocock shells still being used today. With the future of the former ASUW Shell House uncertain, it is important to find the best way to preserve the Shell House, the place where George shaped more than just western red cedar.
